Since today I am a last.fm subscriber. I finally decided to subscribe, primarily for the extended radio functionality. However, in retrospect, I don’t find it as appealing as I thought it would have been. The best part is the Loved tracks station but when I am at home I wouldn’t listen to it (I have better sounding local files) and when I am at work I’d like to listen to something new. Personal tag radio is good but not all that much cooler than regular tag radio.
But, what I really love about being a subscriber is that I can see who has visited my profile. It makes me come back to last.fm a lot more frequently than normal and it also increases my activity on the site (checking out who is checking me out, etc). Wouldn’t it be a smart idea to give everyone the “recently visited” functionality and offer subscribers a significantly improve the radio?
PS: anybody have an idea how I can get the multiple tag functionality there used to be?
So Last.fm’s client finally features audio fingerprinting built in. Remember all the craziness of audioscrobbler and track moderation and all the various ways they’ve tried to make the content work.
I’d like to see, someday, a version of Last.fm (or really any service) that really works for classical music.
Classical music presents two main problems for these types of services: a) they often consist of several tracks that go together in a certain order and b) you really need to keep track of title, performer, and composer at a minimum or tracking number of plays makes no sense.

Someone should at least make a cool header for our blog if nothing else, then we could get rid of this blue … thing.

in Religion.
Reading the newspaper this morning (yesterday’s edition of the Newark Star-Ledger), I happened upon this article. It struck me immediately because current American politics would have you believe that religion is a characteristic of division, not the unity described here. Some of these quotes show the true spirit of what religion tries to teach but always messes up when the agenda enters the room. I guess there area a few perks to living in the densest and most diverse state in the country.

As Ahmed Salem searched for a place in the Piscataway area to open an Islamic school a few years ago, he noticed a rabbi outside an otherwise nondescript commercial building on a road lined with warehouse complexes.
“He’s a man of faith,” said Salem, an Egyptian scholar. “I thought: I have to talk to him.”

Hey, cool. You can do little asides if you have a quick little note to make and don’t feel like writing up a big ‘ol post. Just set the category to Asides and you’re off.
